“The sunset caught me, turned the brush to copper / set the clouds / to one great roof of flame/ above the earth.”
-Elizabeth Coatsworth
Imagine if you can a street only one mile long, where on one side lies a sugar white sand beach dotted with royal palms, and on the other a sweeping Bay with the feel of a tropical lagoon. To the north of this street is a lush, vast pristine natural area – a mangrove forest and complex eco-system preserved and protected as a State park. Rising majestically to the south of this street is the Ritz Carlton Resort, where “Old World” elegance abounds. The street is named Gulf Shore Drive. The incomparable waterfront setting is the neighborhood known as Vanderbilt Beach, in highly sought after North Naples.
One of the landmark high rise towers in Vanderbilt Beach is Vanderbilt Beachcomber, also known as Bellagio Grande. Built in 2003 by developers J. D. Allen and Norman Burke, Vanderbilt Beachcomber is a very low density luxury high rise that is on the “bay” side of Gulf Shore Drive. Only 15 exclusive residences are contained in this 8 story building of “wedding cake” design. Homes range in size from approximately 2350 to over 3250 square feet in living area. As one of the newer buildings, the homes in Vanderbilt Beachcomber are quite spacious relative to most high rise condominiums in the surrounding area. The amenities offered include a community pool and spa with a breathtaking view of Vanderbilt lagoon, fitness center, social room, guest suite, and deeded beach access. The beach is just across the street. Docks are available to owners to be purchased. Owners can literally look down from their condominiums and see their boat and personal boat slip. While there is Gulf access through Wiggins Pass, there are bridges, and thus the size of vessels that can be used in this area is limited accordingly. This gated community has underground parking in secured garages. This is a “pet friendly” building, and currently two pets of up to 30 pounds in weight are permitted upon approval by the association. Prices range from approximately $1,500,000 to over $2,800,000.
We are always looking for features that make a building, or a particular residence, truly exceptional. What makes Vanderbilt Beachcomber unique and set apart is the combination of sweeping Gulf and Bay views and fantastically oversized lanais. Each unit has 3 separate open balcony lanais. The amazing lanais are 42' x 10', 17' x 7', and 32' x 7' per floorplans. In some units, a “sunset terrace” of about 255 square feet is also included. From these magnificent open air balconies panoramic, dramatic views unfold from multiple directions. The views of the beach along the Gulf of Mexico, and Vanderbilt Bay (and the multi-million dollar homes in the distance with private dockage) create a vividly beautiful setting in which to entertain guests. Sunrises and sunsets. The moon and the stars reflecting in the Gulf and Bay waters – all daily entertainment for the lucky few who live in Vanderbilt Beachcomber.
Luxury lifestyle choices here are almost endless. From strolling the beach, to boating, fine dining, world class shopping –this area has it all. The residents of Vanderbilt Beach are rightfully zealous in protecting and preserving the extraordinary quality of life that exists there. Certainly one key to the quality of life is the natural areas and preserves which make the area unique. Delnor-Wiggins State Park, which borders the north section of this neighborhood, is approximately 80 % a mangrove forest. Lush vegetation is plentiful, from sea oats, sea grapes and cabbage palms to other native plants. Wiggins Pass is the outlet for the Cocohatchee river, which feeds into the Gulf of Mexico. This area serves as the habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. In addition to spotting dolphins, you may find loggerhead sea turtles coming ashore in the summer months to lay their eggs, and in winter exotic manatees seeking warmer water. Perhaps there is no better end to a sun-splashed day at the beach and park than fine dining by waterfront. Right down the street on Gulf Shore Drive is The Turtle Club, which promises a gracious and relaxing dining experience – all in a dramatic Gulf-view setting. The Turtle Club has both a dining room and an outdoor deck. Its signature dish is the “Sea Harvest Platter” featuring gulf shrimp, sea scallops, fresh fillet of grouper or other freshly caught fish, served with a lump crab cake and light lemon beurre blanc. Desserts at the Turtle Club are also known to please discriminating palates.
Contact us to discuss properties available in Vanderbilt Beachcomber, and in other luxury towers in the Vanderbilt Beach area. These high rises include, among others, The Vanderbilt (built in 2005), and a tower presently in the pre-construction phase, Beach Tower at Moraya Bay, which is anticipated to be completed in 2008. We would be pleased to answer any questions that you have, and to work with you to help you find the home of your dreams in this wonderful neighborhood in Naples.
