“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”
- Albert Camus
If you are reading this article in winter – perhaps from New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, London, Frankfurt, or anywhere outside of Florida – close your eyes for a second, and imagine yourself living next to a palm tree laden beach, and a tropical preserve. A place where you can spend endless hours swimming, boating, fishing, and wandering a nature preserve. All just steps from your home. Start your morning with a cup of coffee on your lanai, overlooking Turkey Bay, where pelicans and osprey dive for their breakfast. Swim laps in the large, heated pool at your complex, which overlooks a lazy lagoon. Wander the State Park just beyond the gates of your community, where you can fish for snook or sea trout. Or bring field glasses, and watch sandpipers, willets and other birds along the shore, or explore the mangrove forests, where you may spot herons, hawks, or even a bald eagle atop the highest perch of a tree. When you are fully relaxed and refreshed after a day spent in this pristine natural setting, cap off your day by simply driving the short distance down Gulf Shore Drive to the Ritz Carlton Resort, where you can enjoy a world class meal. Where can you live in such a setting, adjacent to a pristine preserve, with short walks to the beach and fabulous waterfront views, yet still nearby to the luxury amenities and sophistication for which the Ritz Carlton Resort is famous for? You can live in Surf Colony, a gated community of 3 high rise condominium buildings, in fashionable North Naples.
Surf Colony is located on a unique parcel of coveted real estate in Naples. Specifically, Surf Colony is built on a peninsula (Carol Baker Point) extending from the Gulf of Mexico. Entrance to the gates of Surf Colony is made at the intersection of Bluebill Avenue and Gulf Shore Drive. Tucked away between Delnor Wiggins State Park, and along the northern tip of the prestigious Vanderbilt Beach area, residents in Surf Colony enjoy short walks to the beach, and State park amenities. The waterfront views are fantastic in this complex, and depending upon location, can include Gulf, Bay, lagoon, and preserve views. The views which face the preserve (and waterfront areas adjacent to it) will never change – adding to the value and allure of this development.
The first tower in Surf Colony was built in 1980, and spans 12 floors, as does the third tower, built in 1984. There are 11 floors in the second tower, built in 1982. Each building contains 66 cozy residences. The condominiums feature 2 to 3 bedrooms, and 2 to 3 bathroom layouts. The size of these charming retreats range from approximately 1,200 to more than 2,100 square feet. A substantial number of these condos have been remodeled to incorporate all the latest luxury features and appointments. The Penthouse residences are quite rare. Many residences contain 2 terraces from which to enjoy the incomparable views. Some enjoy water views from every window. Prices currently range from approximately $575,000 to $950,000, as offered on the MLS.
The lifestyle at Surf Colony is relaxed and casual; the ambience is cozy. Million dollar views abound in this secure, gated environment. Surf Colony is located near all the luxury merchants, cultural attractions and restaurants many come to Naples for – the Waterside Shops, Naples Philharmonic, and, of course, the Ritz Carlton. Despite the urbane surroundings nearby, the section of Surf Colony directly overlooking the preserve truly feels like living on a private, tropical island. The large pool along the lagoon in Surf Colony is one of the most tranquil and picturesque settings in all of Naples. There are 3 tennis courts. Approximately 16 additional boat docks are planned to be built, and an existing marina is already on site. Contact us to learn more about leasing boat docks in this development. All of the homes include beach access. The panoramic waterfront views reflect the unique setting along the Bay, as Surf Colony is bordered by literally thousands of feet of seawall.
Having the Delnor-Wiggins State Park as a “neighbor” makes Surf Colony a unique and special place to live. In 1964, philanthropists Lester and Dellora Norris (from which “Delnor” is derived) generously donated the land to Collier County upon which the Park now sits. The State of Florida thereafter bought the site, and in 1981 the State Park was opened. From the beautiful sand dunes, you can observe native vegetation, such as sea oats, cabbage palms, and sea grapes. There is a boat ramp in the Park, and a section to the north where angling can be enjoyed along the surf (no swimming is permitted in the Wiggins Pass), and an observation tower exists to soak in the majestic setting. There are several spots from which to launch a kayak or canoe to explore the estuaries and mangrove forests along spectacular Turkey Bay, which leads directly to the Gulf of Mexico through Wiggins Pass. Boating, birding, swimming, biking, hiking along the beach – this place has it all.
