“Wealth belongs to the person who enjoys it, and not to the one who keeps it.”
- Afghan Proverb
“The Savoy,” the very name carries a legacy of gracious luxury, recalling legendary figures such as Ceasar Ritz, Auguste Escoffier, and Winston Churchill – who are tied by history and lore to the landmark hotel located in the West End theatre district in London. The Savoy high rise tower in Naples, like its “namesake,” sits on a coveted location, is close to fine dining and world class performing arts, and has been recently remodeled to maintain its elegance.
The Savoy is located in Park Shore, a tony beachfront neighborhood considered one of the world’s finest. This 19-story high rise was completed in 1983 by First Regency Development Corporation. Sitting adjacent to a beachfront park, Savoyards enjoy luxury lifestyles that have come to signify Naples – boating, fine dining, cultural attractions, exclusive shopping enclaves, and award winning beaches. Residents in Savoy are eligible to purchase or lease boat slips within walking distance of their homes, and join the Venetian Bay Yacht Club. The spectacular restaurants, galleries, and boutiques of the upscale Venetian Village waterfront shopping district is a leisurely stroll away. From the Savoy, a short drive will take you to the Philharmonic Center for the Arts, where you can experience world class performances of ballet, opera, classical and popular music, or Broadway theatrical productions. Closer to home, the Savoy features a large beachfront pool and spa, complete with private cabanas at poolside available for purchase.
Situated in an idyllic setting, the residences in Savoy enjoy panoramic views of the blue-green warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You can truly see “all the way to Sanibel” from the perch of your private balcony. The residences include multiple balconies. Stunning vistas of Venetian Bay, and the night lights of the Naples skyline, are yours to savor, in addition to the incomparable seascape views featured here.
A distinguishing feature of the Savoy is its atrium, complete with water feature, tropical landscaping, and white baby grand piano. The lobby and atrium area highlight the fantastic renovation and remodeling work done to the interior common areas (and exterior) of the building within the last 2 years. Savoy is perhaps a model for how to “update” the classic condominiums of its era along the waterfront in Naples. The end result is one of understated elegance, and the lobby and atrium may best be enjoyed looking out the glass windows of the elevators, revealing a building filled with natural light, and panoramic views. The renovation also involved the spacious high tech fitness center, which peers out to the Gulf of Mexico through glass walls. An array of top of the line cardio and weight training machines are yours to work out with. You can cap off your session with some time in one of the well appointed steam rooms.
The Savoy is an “amenity rich” building, which features:
-
residences with approximately 1,735 to 3,100 square feet in living area
-
2 to 3 bedrooms, and 2 to 3 bathrooms
-
Har-Tru tennis court
-
roof top patio/sun deck on the 19th Floor
-
beachfront pool and spa
-
pool side cabanas
-
beach access with private entrance
-
boat slip rental opportunities
-
multiple balconies, including both screened and unscreened lanais
-
access to private, lighted 1 ¼ mile promenade along Park Shore beach
Some of the residences on the upper floors, including certain penthouses, are 2 stories – with winding staircases, and upper level lofts. These apartments in particular offer dramatic interior design potential, as some owners have renovated to create 2 story glass walls, resulting in jaw-dropping views.
Musings by the ImagineNaples waterfront team: Perhaps in tribute to the hometown of its namesake, the grounds of the Savoy contain quite an interesting conversation piece – a “red telephone box,” identical to the charming red icons found throughout London and the rest of the United Kingdom. This public telephone kiosk is located near the pool at Savoy. The “telephone box” appears to be a “K6" model – first introduced in 1935 to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George V. This homage to the home country of the “original” Savoy is very ironic – as the original red boxes were designed to protect the public from the notoriously damp British climate, and the kiosk at the Savoy in Naples is surrounded by swaying palms and everlasting sunshine most of the year.
You don’t need to exhaust “six degrees of separation” to link the history of the Savoy hotel in London to present day Naples, Florida. After opening in 1889, the Savoy in London eventually recruited César Ritz from Paris to be its manager. In a coup, Ritz brought maître chef Auguste Escoffier with him to the Savoy. Ritz was known as “king of hoteliers, and hotelier to kings,” and Escoffier is widely hailed as the father of modern French cooking, and a pioneer in professional kitchen organization. ( Kaiser Wilhelm II once exclaimed to Escoffier: “I am the Emperor of Germany, but you are the emperor of chefs”). Later, the Hotel Ritz was opened in Paris, and the Carlton in London. Years later, the names were bought and franchised in the United States, with the first Ritz Carlton in America debuting in Boston.
Naples today is known as a place where gourmands, “foodies,” and connoisseurs of fine cuisine congregate. It is part of the fabric of the lifestyle. Also part of the lifestyle here is catering to those who expect and enjoy the “best of the best” in luxury amenities. Many local commentators point to the opening of the Ritz-Carlton resort in Naples in the mid-1980's as the seminal event which launched Naples into a new plateau of luxury living and lifestyles. Visitors to the hotel fell in love with Naples, and a boom in ultra-luxury residential development ensued – including state of the art high rise towers, and magnificent waterfront estate homes. The gracious living that was the hallmark of the experience at the Savoy hotel in London at the turn of the last century (and thereafter), is experienced today in Naples, Florida, where some of the most sophisticated and affluent people from around the globe relax, dine, shop, play – and live.
